Rough Day

Today was a rough day. We woke up, ready to take a nice, relaxing walk to start the day. Josh went downstairs to let Toby out, and discovered a diarrhea explosion. So he took the dog, in his crate, outside to hose both off. I worked on cleaning the carpet downstairs, then went outside to give Toby a quick bath. We let him back inside and continued what we were doing. All of a sudden, I look down and there is a puddle of blood on the floor, and then we find another, mixed with poop not too far away. I get Toby back outside, clean it up, and then we call the vet. They say to bring him in right away.

Josh was going to the doctor this morning anyway, so he took Addy with him and I took the dog. The vet thinks everything is ok with him, just a diarrhea bug of some sort, and we got him medicine and some special food for a few days.

While Josh was at the doctor, they weighed Addy, since she hadn't gained much since the last time we were there. This time she lost 3 oz. So now we are taking some drastic measures-adding some formula powder to her bottles and we are getting her some acid reflux medicine, since she can get pretty fussy with some of her bottles. We'll try all that and take her in again on Tuesday. Hopefully we can fatten up this baby!!!

Hmmmm

So I take back my last entry-Addy is not always a happy baby. I haven't posted since Sunday, because we have been busy trying to keep the baby happy. Sunday night, it took about 2 1/2 hrs to get her to sleep, so, um, that was fun.

Monday she was still pretty upset off and on, but slept quite a bit, so that was nice. Yesterday, I think I figured out how to get her to sleep, its just a little frustrating because instead of whining, she goes from happy to screaming in 1.5 seconds, nothing in between. But I think she's doing better now, since I've figured out a way which usually gets her to sleep within a few minutes. Keeping her asleep is now the challenge, especially when the dog thinks it his turn to be noisy.

On the positive side, she is starting to smile, especially after she had a really good nap, or when daddy comes home from work. Today we are going to attempt a shopping trip to Target-hopefully all goes well!!

Here comes Summer!

Josh, Addy, Toby and I have resorted to living in the basement, because summer is here. On our way to church this morning, just before 11, it was already in the 90s. I don't think I'm ready for summer yet.

Yesterday we went for a morning walk around the neighborhood. Addy was awake for most of it, and seemed to really enjoy it. She was quiet the whole time and just looking around, even though she was pretty much all covered up in her stroller. After that, she had a poop explosion, which required a bath-one in her tub, not just a sponge bath. She liked it this time, probably because it was so much warmer in the house and we had just been outside in the 80 degree weather! Yesterday evening, Addy got to see her first toys. We put up the toy bar that goes with her bouncy seat to see what she would do. Her eyes were wide as she observed the bright toys. She raised her fists toward the toys, but didn't really touch them. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was super cute :)

Today we went to church and Panera, as is our tradition. Then, once again, resorted to the basement. No walk today!! As long as she is clean, fed and gas-free, she's been a pretty happy baby lately. She sleeps 5 hr stretches at night usually and is really starting to smile on occasion. It's hard to capture on camera, though we are definitely trying!

1 Month Birthday!

Addy had her 4 week checkup Wednesday. She hadn't gained as much weight as we had hoped, but otherwise is doing well. She got her first vaccine since she's been out of the hospital-not so thrilled with it! Eventually we got her calmed down, poor baby :(

She's growing and changing so much! Her dark hair is growing longer and getting a wave to it, especially when its wet. It also has a slight red tint in the sunlight. She's got a case of baby acne that is always changing-something to look forward to in 13 years! Her dark blue eyes are looking around and staring at faces and things and following moving objects a bit. Her little fingernails grow pretty fast, I'm trimming them at least every week. Her little legs seem to be getting longer everyday! She's still a squirmer, which makes diaper changes always interesting. She's staying up longer during the day, sometimes not wanting to take a nap, so we are working on that! She's awesome though-we are having a blast!

New pics to be posted soon as well.

Hangin' with Aunt Sarah

The past few days, Addy has been meeting her aunt Sarah. Now Addy's met all her aunts!

We've been hanging out around the house, visiting and watching tv. We also went out to Gordman's and Kohl's, to continue teaching Addy how to shop! Grandma also helped us work on our yard a little, trimming up the bushes-everything looks so much better!

Today the plan is to go to the doctor, because Addy is 4 weeks old!

Time for the park!

Yesterday Adalyn had her first trip to the park! The weather has either been cold or rainy, and we haven't been able to go for a walk. Yesterday, it rained almost the whole day, but then it finally stopped, the sun came out and it warmed up a bit. So we were finally able to go on our walk! We met up with Charlene, Brady and Maddie (her future bff) and took a walk around the lake.

She did great for the first half of the trip. Then we stopped to hang out at a mini waterfall, and she got a little upset and hungry. But then we kept going and she fell back asleep until I could get her some food. Hopefully next time, daddy won't be working so that he and Toby can join us!

Today we did some shopping too, and Addy was great. We were able to stop at Lowe's and Babies R Us with her, and she was good while mommy or daddy ran into 2 other stores too.

She also had her first bath in her bathtub today, not just a sponge bath. She didn't like it very much, but we did wake her up right around her feeding time, so that could have been part of the problem too....

Aunt Sarah is coming for her first visit tomorrow, so we must be off to get ready for her and grandma!

Mother's Day

I had a great first Mother's day on Sunday! First Josh made me breakfast-delicious! Then we had our first trip to church as a family. Addy did pretty well. She made a little noise during the 2nd reading, but other than that was pretty quiet and slept the whole time. Then we stopped at Panera for an after-church snack. We relaxed most of the rest of the day, though I wanted more of a nap than Addy would let me have!

Yesterday we had our first shopping adventure, just Addy and I. She started off pretty upset when we got in the car, but once we got onto the highway she fell asleep. We got halfway through Bed bath and beyond and she started screaming. Nothing calmed her down until I got her out of the carseat, so that's how we finished our shopping there. She fell asleep as soon as I took her out, so we decided to try our 2nd store. She was great through that store. Then I thought I'd try one last stop at Walgreens. Again, she made it about halfway through, and then got pretty upset again, but we were almost done, so we finished up and went home.

She's definitely getting crankier than she used to be. I don't think she knows what she wants, so we just experiment until she falls asleep. At least she can go to sleep during storms, or last night would have been REALLY bad!

More visitors

Things here have been going pretty well. Addy had more visitors last night-my old work friends came by to visit, as well as Addy's future playmates, Kendall and 2 mo. old Maddie. The first of many playdates!

Addy has started her fussy times. We can get her to calm down and start to sleep, but as soon as we put her down, she's wide awake again. Should continue to be a fun adventure :-\

We had our first trip out to somewhere other than the doctor on Thursday. We went with aunt Steph on a walk through downtown St. Charles. It was a beautiful day, and Addy slept through it-I guess she loves her stroller! We really wanted to go on a walk again today, but it got really cold-most of the day was in the 50s! Hopefully next week warms up so we can start our walks outside.

Tomorrow we are going to attempt an outing to church. We'll see how that goes!

Happy Bark-day Toby!

Yesterday we celebrated Toby's 2nd Birthday, I mean, Barkday. He got puppy ice cream for dinner and all kinds of love :)

We have been hanging out w/Aunt Stephanie the past few days. We've watched the Cardinals lose to the Phillies, visited Daddy's work, gone out for ice cream, and had tons of fun!

We also went to the dr yesterday. She says Addy is doing great. She gained 10oz. since her last visit, just over a week ago-more than an oz. a day! She also has a nice, clean bellybutton now-very cute :) We are also hoping to start our walks soon, now that its warm but not too hot and the weather has been beautiful! Toby will enjoy that too.

Well, we are off to enjoy our last day w/Aunt Stephanie!

More gross...

We woke up this morning to Toby with another accident in his crate :( Poor baby isn't feeling very well I guess! While I got him cleaned up outside, it gave me a chance to use our baby monitors for the first time :/

But in good news-Addy's cord fell off today! I'm glad, cause it was looking really gross. So now she just has her cute little belly button.

It's also our first day home alone, since daddy went to work. So far so good!

Nickname

After much deliberation, we have finally decided how to spell Adalyn's nickname:

Addy

Gross

Oh the joys of having 2 babies in the house.

Adalyn has discovered how fun it is to pee on momma during her diaper changes. Twice in less than 24 hours... At least this time it wasn't poop. Until....

We had just come downstairs to watch some TV when we look over and Toby had just left a huge, stinky pile of poop right on the basement carpet. Little did we know how bad it was until a few minutes later, when the smell overtook the entire floor. He never even did anything like this during potty training.

Oh the sweet joys of parenthood!

Adalyn is here!

The sweetest cutest baby is now here. She loves sleeping, eating and fidgeting. She's been home for a week now, and things are going pretty smoothly. We aren't getting much done around the house, since we are having so much fun watching and playing with her, but I still need some rest, since I'm still a little sore from the delivery!

Adalyn's first baths at home have been pretty good, with mixed reactions. She seems to really enjoy having her hair washed, but the rest of it she could do without. And both baths have resulted in mom getting peed on at the end! We've had a few poop explosions too-mostly just going up the front of her diaper and only once getting on mom's clothes.

She's doing pretty good with feedings, going 3-4 hours and letting mom and dad get some sleep at night. Let's hope it stays that way! Well, its about time for more food, so I must be going!
